Battle Bratt - Battle Bratt

review by Rosberg Lima exclusively for BRUTALISM.com

Originality is one of the several elements contained in this American band of the eighties. The junction between Hard Rock and Heavy Metal is perfect. To each executed track the listener is involved by Battle Bratt's sonority. Music with great guitar soils, memorable and easy chorus of singing and a great harmony among all of the instruments. The insert also more complete vein including musical letters, the history of the band, pictures among other things. Imagine as if you returned to Hard/Heavy eighties, it’s exactly as soon as you will feel when hearing this excellent band called Battle Bratt. That’s a band that cannot lack in your discography of classic with absolute certainty.

Battle Bratt - The Anthology

review by Rosberg Lima exclusively for BRUTALISM.com

One more classic of the Hard/Heavy Metal, The Anthology was thrown by the band Battle Bratt. Who still doesn't know this incredible American band doesn't know what is losing; it’s sound eighties without any freshness. Well, I will talk about the disk The Anthology is treated of a compilation containing songs of 1984-1985, all removed of we gave of the band. The graphic production is excellent, containing the whole history of Battle Bratt, pictures of the band in shows and in studio, the musical letters and much more. One of the best bands of the style eighties that I already heard!

Formed in the mid-eighties, this band has done extensive club touring along the Eastern seaboard. They are an original band who started out as speed metal in the early eighties, but after hearing this album it is very hard to believe. They have a decidely 'dated' sound, yet one that is timeless; in short, this is a band that you must listen to to appreciate. Smooth vocals, screaming guitars riffs, and lyrics that speak of sex, drugs, and rock n roll tempered with the occasional ballad. Make no mistake, despite being on a German label this is an all American band. However, it cannot be left unsaid that these guys do have an unmistakable and familiar sound to them. Dare I say they sound alarmingly like Whitesnake, Europe, White Lion, etc.?? Yes, I do because it's true and just a glance at the titles will confirm it. with titles like 'Heat of the Night', 'Winds of Change', and 'Rock n' Roll Sin' it becomes obvious who their influences are and while they LOOK like songs of other bands, they bear no musical resemblance to them. Clever marketing? Maybe, but they still maintain that they are NOT a cover band. Battle Bratt has been many years in the making by their own confession but are worth the wait to us hair junkies. So, for fans of eighties sounding metal--White Lion, Whitesnake, or 'power ballads'--check out Battle Bratt.

Battle Bratt was an early American power metal band that was formed in 1984 by drummer Mato Aghetti. They appeared on the compilation "Speed Metal Hell" from the California based label Renaissance Records in 1985. Many demo recordings followed before they released one album on the German label U.S. Metal in 1989 (it was originally meant to be released in 1988 but was delayed) which was produced by David De Feis of Virgin Steele and is a highly collectable item today. After the album the band went on a promotional tour to Europe where they did interviews and played some shows in Germany, Belgium, Holland and France but in late 1988 the band was dissolved. During 2005 the band was re-activated by Matt Aghetti who once again teamed up with guirarist Bill Kania and long time bassist Rob Dexter, the latter now also handling lead vocals. In January 2006 original vocalist Jimmy Kane rejoined the fold and in February 2006 their 1988 album was reissued on Battle Cry Records Europe.

Anspieltipps: Winds Of Change, Back To Love, Lost Without Love, Cruisin' For Action

BATTLE BRATT: “Battle Bratt”- 1988/2006- Battle Cry Records / SuBMerged Music

The last three years have seem to reborn the important assemblies of hard rock and or glamorous metal according the wants of the calls, of that that reigned in glory and majesty of almost two decades. And if already we have seen the return of legends such as Twister Sister, Quiet Riot, Def Leppard, Strypper, Europe by only to name a few. But as many as of you will recall to these not less veterans of Battle Bratt?? Surely not many of you, but perhaps itself the career of this band in its short term was centered mainly in Europe.

Nevertheless, the years pass and for happiness of many that had the fortune to listen to them without being done with 80's metal, finally its homonymous debut has been reprinted this year by the German record label Battle Cry Records along with another plate of unpublishedits material that without doubt serve of the introduction to what will be the return for this years new titled disk “Seeds of the Universe”.

But for now, we look at inside this plastic. We say that Battle Bratt were heirs of the same school glam rock of the 80s, with an approach something more heavy than the remainder of their colleagues of position, similar al Dokken of their first disks, in fact their guitarist Michael Mostert very little would have that to envy someone as Jeff Pilson, therefore their alone though they are not a waste of virituosismo to torrents, if that achieve a feeling that Alone the ones that know can achieve.

The themes in itself, they come cut by a same line, media full times of powerful choruses around here and by there, what touches in good measure in themes as “Winds of Change”, “Cruisin' for action”, “ Don' t fight the power” or the adhesive “Heat of the night”.

Adding that does not lack his emotional ballad- this in a plan very Kiss- as the end "can' t let your love go” (good, semi ballad in reality), like neither a few bonus draw to do more attractive this acquisition in the form of “Winds of Change”, “Back to love”, “Cruisin' for action”, all they in his versions we give. Interesting acquisition if you like to recall glamorous panorama that the crazy 80s offered.

Review POWERMETAL.DE Germany Holger Andrae [26.05.2006]

The name BATTLE BRATT will be common probably not many. And nevertheless now canned goods with the heading appear “The Anthology”, whose title suggests that quartet would have already innumerable publications on the embossment. I can calm you down, that am not like that. I am personal over the volume as I search for new Underground fodder the Sampler “speed Metal Hell” from new Renaissance record that I found for the first time. That was in the year 1985 and on the part was beside shells of the mark SAVAGE GRACE, RK WAS or WHIPLASH also to date unpublished ARTILLERY Song “Hey Woman”. I deviate. Beside this there were however - as so frequent in with that label - also some cucumbers. I want to save you to names, but with BATTLE BRATT there was also a chapel, which stood out beside all these types in leathers and rivets above all optically. Post June gene on their volume photo nevertheless with multicolored cloths and torn in best tradition such volume such as MÖTLEY CRÜE or RATT. That did not fit somehow absolutely the remaining appearance of the other troops.
The Song “Henchman” however sounded much promising. US Metal with an extreme head voice. I expected briskly a Long player, which should not really come however. Only in 1989 appeared on the German Label US Metal the debut that volume, which holds an almost character today with a small crowd. Despite relatively substantial medium operational readiness level at that time it did not want to loose-go in the house BATTLE BRATT however so correctly. Ergo: one dissolved after long year’s defrosted.
Over a decade those is again active later volume with original singer Jim Kane, which calls itself on the Sampler mentioned above still Jimmie James. Before one offers however new material to the world, the ambition label Battle Cry record made itself the trouble and age-old material from the year 1985 excavated, it equipped with a grand booklet and grants new views of the initial stage that to the interested fan volume.
Melodic metal from the US. Like the opening “Henchman” or the Band hymn “Tuff Too Bad” rocken’ powerfully the house. With “Remember ME” the bent listener gets a superb Hal ballade supplied, which as an absolute earworm emerges briskly. Clearly, BATTLE BRATT enriched the music scene already at that time not with revolutionary ideas, but the compositions sound simply fresh and honest. Some the listener of other volume familiarly to also surely occurs ago. Thus the Riffing of “The Guilty One” reminds strongly of JUDAS PRIEST’s “Heavy Duty”, which I accept however with an amused Schmunzeln. If one considers that David DeFeis took care of at that time that volume and functioned as a producer of the debut album and if one regards then, how large chapels of the mark became RATT or SAVATAGE, one must ask oneself inevitably, how many wrong decisions in the house BATTLE BRATT were made. Well, as well, as genanten volume they (still) were not, but the material would have had to meet the spirit of the time at that time in the heart, it would have been heard. Above all the fast numbers, as for instance the furious “Screaming in The Night” show the clear strengths that volume. Simple, but effective guitar playing and singing lines, which lay however occasionally easily over the normal standard. I for my part like such a thing, so long the lung acrobat its borders know, which the case is definite here.
As one gets to the alternate versions with the first singer Chris Galipolli served, which roll likewise very well from the boxes with “Henchman” and “Tuff Too bath”. Interesting it is always to be able to reconstruct the development of these songs
surely rather a publication for the hard collecting tank. These get however also VALUE for money required, because opening is said, like, all first cream.
Recommendations: Henchman; Remember Me; Screaming in The Night; Battle Bratt

You can't imagine yourself how it's amazingly to return to 80s, where the music wasn't more frightening than Heavy and there were so many Hard & Heavy/Glam bands on Metal scene that worked for it and so many resources were involved for it, so I think it was the most beneficial time for Metal music. For example, look at Battle Bratt. Now it's hard to judge for me about their originality after the lapse of many, many years, I just have nothing to compare. Where do you find well-known but not over-heard Hard & Heavy of 80s in 21st century?!

So what does represent itself this self-titled album? This is mid-tempo, melodic, guitar-oriented and vocals-oriented Hard & Heavy (sometimes it's even just real Heavy Metal) with the rich high-pitched vocals like young Tate, with the big number of the guitar solos, sometimes in bluesy Glam/Hard & Heavy traditions, with the memorable refrains, which are easy to sing on memory without the music, and with much harmony in music itself. What do I hear in the songs of the band? I hear solo Dio, Saxon, Queensryche, Pretty Maids, Crimson Glory - no, I don't compare, there is just something similar in the sound. That is surprising for me there aren't any real ballads on this release, this is already not typical for the traditions of such music, though as I said all album was composed in mid-tempo style, so it's hard to separate just slow song and lachrymatory ballad.

I'm sure (it's bad or good, I can't say...) you haven't got any Battle Bratt albums in your collection, this band shined in the fullness of time, they went into hiding for years from us, and at last reissue of their album was released (this reissue is with

high quality of the recording, even the bonus demo versions). Do you still hunger to plunge in irrevocable world of 80's music, and besides in the world of music, that wasn't duplicated for hundred years forward, wasn't sold for the souvenirs and didn't have time to bother? Do you understand that I recommend you to listen to Battle Bratt?

First of all, did you familiarize yourself with the review content, that's dedicated to self-titled Battle Bratt album? It's not bad to take a look at common information about the band (review for Battle Bratt album simply titled Battle Bratt), and then to read about this exclusive stuff.

This album presents a compilation of the songs from 1984-1985 period, the demo versions, etc. I'd like to add to those words from another review that I said describing Battle Bratt music, that there is something from Fates Warning, Rainbow, Iron Maiden and even just a little from AC/DC and Led Zeppelin on this album also, this recording at last presents us a real ballad Remember Me and fast enough track Screaming in the Night also.

I'd like to note also that this release likes me better than self-titled album because of greater variety in the music, though a number of the guitar solos and high quality of playing don't differ from album'88. In any case it isn't necessary to perceive this album as some makeweight to Battle Bratt works, it can be called with the full responsibility as a complete full-length album with an absolutely another stuff that's different from self-titled album, with the great songs, performed on the high-skilled level, just professionally.

This music isn't perceived as an ancient music, become obsolete its live long ago, even in 2006 - year of reissue of the self-titled album and release of this The Anthology album. No, such music is still alive and young; it gives not less astonishing impressions from the listening to it. I'm waiting for the new Battle Bratt album!

05/17/2006 www.MetalSpheres.com Germany reviewed by Peter Bigalki staff writer.

For the entirely hard collectors, this publication would be allowed to be cold coffee. Nevertheless the previously only official life sign became of Battle Brat already 1991 of a Japanese Label wiederveröffentlicht. With teutonischer thoroughness, not only the debut became separate published just a work show with the entirely early receptions before a couple of days also simultaneously out of the years 1984-1985 parallel in addition. In all modesty would be yet noticed in that a colleague of this magazine who not nominally would like to be named had produced, the contact to Battle Cry Records and Andy Preisig had once again the correct Riecher.

Enough of the introduction. We beamen us into the year 1984, that may count as a foundation year. After the usual search for suitable partners, was published the first demo in the same year. That was balanced out after the recruitment of a new guitarist yet once. Also Ann Boleyn got a copy of this demo and already was found a title on that „Speed Metal brightly“Sampler again. Titles were received further diligently, were played concerts and came new musicians into the volumes. 1988 was the volumes actually ready and to receive will its first LP. Was a Label found flew in Germany (US Metal), the volumes expressly over the large pond, gave did itself amply interviews and what? Nothing! The publication appointment was shifted once just on 1989, the planned Coverartwork not also was taken sank sang and somehow the volumes and toneless. Therewith again into the year 2006. The CD is therefore outside and the question, who should buy then now this part again, the market with current Silberlingen nevertheless is overflowed enough, thoroughly is entitled. Now, to the one, it gives that, that treat its Vinyl more than careful, and that can that very now more than once hear, emerges without that immediately warehouse fire romanticism. He who had already anno 1989 its copy completely durchgenudelt, can hear of now at undisturbed of mornings until evenings each title repeatedly. For that, that were at that time not yet Metal, this CD is next to many other republications out of the glorious time of our music a further chapter Geschichtsunterunterricht. They are therefore a sufficient stimulation to buy. If it fits then also musically somewhat.

With much wind and discreet thunderstorm, the official 9 titles are rung in. The introduction is named wind of change, is compare to also some years after the first marketing a solid foundation, that Virgin Steele or hunt lets tank thoroughly to. In one rarely dämlichen title as well as „Cruising for action“ so many a will open immediately the hair spray box, but with Poison and Co. that has very then God praise nothing at the hat. Solid Power Metal, no longer and not fewer. Why the musical roots are not assumed by many in Europe and in the USA, no idea. Makes reversed that very more sense, nevertheless fall me spontaneously a couple volume on, that itself lively knocker as well as „Don't Fight The Power “ certainly as clue. The first three titles did not start quite orderly and the feared Kantate Amore becomes themselves „You're the one“ then yet. To be sure that of one of the title, that rustle sooner unspectacularly through the headphones, is. Now well, a small weak point would be forgiven, nevertheless had Battle Brat anno 1989 eight convincing arguments ready. What irritates at that time like today something, is the siren song. Certainly this publication had appeared are vis-à-vis many other that also in this time, the disadvantage to not to be blessed with classic obstruction. What is not also would damage, it concerns only the music and that, what kind of at that time the daily revelation was. Contribution of the same name Battle Bratçs to the renown of the Heavy Metals is actual that to have been solely at the same time and to have set evtl. a couple of aroma sign. Today like at that time no flop, but also no sensational Kantersieg. As a bonus, there are 4 titles in the respective demo versions.

The Anthology is named the second publication and includes the receptions out of the years 1984-1985. here appears the volumes of a partially completely other side. Speed Metal! Henchman! Youth wildly and enthusiastic! Tuff Too Bad! Do not decline certainly always perfectly, but idealistic to that. Delusions! Also hard men have feelings. Remember me! Power Metal! Fear Striken Man! The guilty one! Prisoner of desire! Again Speed Metal! Screaming in the night! Battle Bratt! The entire gives well until sufficiently and two titles sounds it yet in alternative versions. Sometime this year a new CD of Battle Brat should appear then. I let surprise myself.

Somehow I had stored nothing in my memory to BATTLE BRATT except that the LP had a superlangweiliges cover. At the same time the sing e.g. "Heat of the night" really extremely strong. US-Metal with commercial impact, but not as insignificant as about KEEL, but rather always powerful with recognition to value. Apparently SAVATAGE are an example for Mr. Bourray. It does not make me forget entirely a Sangesgott its predecessor (one would hear "The Anthology") and reaches far above average quality. Oliver clamp (High Vaultage) gave itself in the Booklet much effort and so gets one a small classic, that probably many Metal-fans had noted previously exactly so few, like I. Please many volumes one gradually better? Probably yes, at least in the case of BATTLE BRAT I am tended to revise my judgment indicating that the unpublished material of the young singer on "The Anthology" and very interesting. Is Sound sometimes somewhat thin and rumpelig, but what one expects of age old receptions? Differently the quality of that is songs also over the total duration of the CD. For me the songs sometimes strong on the nerves, For screaming head voice-fans naturally a found eating. In "The guilty one", I am however in any case the opinion: The singer is indebted to rape my ears. Is at the same time the Song lines yet right good, but the Gekreische in addition? Now yes, altogether I am yet positively surprised. Some songs would be would rather damaged if left to gather dust somewhere. (Stefan Riermaier) staff writer.

Battle Bratt has signed a second licensing distribution contract with Battle Cry Records for "THE ANTHOLOGY"... The Anthology is a full-length record that the band wrote and record in 1984 and 1985 with vocalist Jim Kane and guitar player Bill Kania. The record was shelved by the band due to changes in lineup and has been sitting in our archive for twenty-one years and is now being released for the first time.
Because the new Battle Bratt has all the original members from 1985 we have decided to release THE ANTHOLOGY as our own retro Bratt record. You can expect the label to put out on this CD like on the 88 reissue another sixteen page booklet featuring retro Bratt photos, lyrics to the songs and more....
The 1988 reissue of the debut record and "THE ANTHOLOGY" will be released at the same time on there own this spring. You will be able to purchase both CD's and official Battle Bratt merchandise right on our website sometime in April this spring...
The New record "SEED OF THE UNIVERSE" is in full production and the band is working day in and day out on the new songs and sounds. This new record will be nothing that you would expect coming out of an eighties metal band, but then Battle Bratt has never been predictable so it should grab you by the way side and rock your face off.
This new record is something very different for us so we are very excited about it and look forward to touring and supporting the record throughout Europe and America for all the loyal fans new and old who never got to see us live, Lets Rock !!.
